Big Data Analysis with Apache Spark

    Online

Apache Spark is a user-friendly open-source platform for large-scale data processing, analytics and for parallel-computing. Using Apache Spark and Python (PySpark), this workshop is aimed at analyzing data sets that are too large to be handled and processed by a single computer. With hands-on guided examples, the workshop covers the basics of Spark and Resilient Distributed Datasets (RDD) high-level architecture. The examples are mainly written in Python, hence the APIs covered are the ones available in PySpark, including Spark Core API (RDD API), Spark SQL, and Pandas on Spark. Participants will learn how to import data, use functions to transform, reduce and compile the data, and produce parallel algorithms that can run on Alliance clusters. Prerequisites: ACENET Basics or equivalent How to write functions in Python

Removing Endpoint Admin Rights from Technical Users: Stopping the Attack While Enabling the User

    Online

It's common knowledge that removing local admin rights is one of the most straightforward ways to protect an organization from cyberthreats. Without elevated privileges, threat actors can’t easily (if at all) identify admin accounts that can be used to move laterally and further an attack. In essence, without local admin rights, the endpoint is the end of the line for an attacker. It’s easy to remove local admin rights for end users that are in Marketing or Sales. But once you start trying to remove rights from technical users like development or QA that require more rights than just a local user, it becomes extremely difficult. It’s one of the reasons threat actors target these kinds of users in spear phishing attacks and job-themed social engineering attacks – the assumption is that the victim already has admin rights on the endpoint. So, how can you remove local admin from even the most technical user and still keep them working? In this Real Training for Free session, 4-time Microsoft MVP, Nick Cavalancia takes my seat and first will cover: Why local admin rights are a critical point in a cyberattack What MITRE ATT&CK TTPs rely on having local admin rights Up […]

How to Build a DevOps Supply Chain on Zero-Trust Principles

    Online

Over the past decade, the concept of Zero Trust has become a fundamental part of cybersecurity architecture. In fact, the concept of Zero Trust is behind most common network security policies, which require continuous and explicit validation, use least privilege access controls, and assume that a breach could have already occurred and we are simply not yet aware of it. Zero Trust has been fundamental in securing enterprise networks from cyber attackers. However, in recent years, cyber attackers are turning their attention away from network based attacks to finding code based vulnerabilities. In this talk series they will discuss how Zero Trust principles, applied so effectively to enterprise network security, can also be applied to continuously protecting the Software Development Lifecycle from would-be attackers. Session Topics Include: "Walking the Line: GitOps and Shift Left Security" with Melinda Marks, Sr. Analyst at ESG "Building a DevOps Supply Chain on Zero Trust Principles" with Bisham Kishnani, Head of Cloud Security Engineering at Check Point Software Technologies "Practitioners Discussion on Developer First Security" with Dotan Nahum, Head of Developer Security at Check Point Software Technologies

How Expectations Have Changed: Lessons From The Great Resignation

    Online

The world has changed and so have the expectations of employees and the realities of today’s workforce. There have been many studies, articles, and research conducted over the years that well articulate the evolution of the workforce including how important it is for businesses and organizations to evolve along with it. Enter the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 forced the world through a massive disruption to the norms of the workplace and forever changed the perceptions and expectations of today’s workforce. The vast majority of these “new” expectations that employees are bringing to the workplace since the pandemic were not created by COVID-19. They were only amplified by it. The result of these expectations not being met by their current jobs caused employees to resign on mass. According to the US Department of Labor, a record 4.5 million U.S. workers quit their jobs in November 2021. Even though this is slowing down in 2022, many of the underlying problems that caused it remain. The long term effects of the Great Resignation are not just a North American problem, they are a global phenomenon. As impactful as the Great Resignation was for businesses in 2021, the problems that created it have been building […]
