There is growing information that workplace mental health is becoming a more significant challenge (e.g., YOY increases in STD/LTD & WCB claims due to mental illness). Knowing workers’ mental health is a growing concern is not enough. Assuming that simply introducing programs and policies will be enough to have an impact is a common mistake. To positively impact workplace mental health, employers must understand what psychosocial risk factors and hazards are creating considerable strain on workers and leaders. They must then discover what protective factors they can facilitate by using a Plan – Do – Check – Act approach to reducing mental harm and promoting mental health. More than 80% of NPower Canada alumni secure employment or enroll in higher education within 6 months of graduating, with 30-40% already placed into jobs upon completing training. Graduates launch digital careers in roles such as Help Desk Agent, Data Analyst, QA / Tester and Business Systems Analyst with companies like TELUS, Accenture and CIBC. NPower Canada is a registered charity launching underserved young adults ages 17-30 into meaningful digital careers. NPower Canada's virtually delivered programs provide youth with 15 weeks of no-cost, part-time tech skills training, including industry certifications, complemented by employability skills coaching and wraparound supports (including bus pass, interview clothing and laptops/WiFi based on financial need). Program participants are also connected directly with employers, job retention supports and five years of alumni services including continued education and mentorship. Youth do not need any prior background in tech to apply. They must have completed their high school, Dogwood or GED, and be eligible to work in Canada.
