The 4th Annual Responsible Leadership event is on Friday, November 18 2022 at 9 a.m. AST and it will be in-person in Halifax. The theme is Digital Future: Ethics, Integrity, and Values. It is Saint Mary’s University’s goal to create community and dialogue around data ethics, digital citizenship, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in support of the Sobey School’s commitment to PRME and our new Master of Business Analytics (MBAN) program. Keynote speaker Juliette Powell is a consultant, researcher, and speaker whose expertise lies at the intersection of technology, business and ethics. Juliette advises large companies on the accelerating change that is underway due to AI-enabled technological innovation coupled with shifting social dynamics and heightened global competition. Her keynote will focus on AI leadership and how the digital transformation can coexist with ethical data sharing and analytics in business, education, transportation, banking, mobile, retail, and social gaming. Hoist sessions are led by industry experts and are designed to help teens explore and expand their interests in technology and entrepreneurship. Workshops develop skills in areas like design, coding, game development, and much more. Hoist sessions take place one Saturday a month (with the exception of July, August and December) and are targeted for teens ages 12 to 19. Topics change each month and are based on current trends, as well as the needs and interests of Hoist participants. This helps make each session unique and fun for the participants. November's Topic: Design Thinking During this fun and interactive session we will work together and go through the design thinking process. Speaker Veronica Merryfield will discuss the importance of workplace inclusion and introduce Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with a focus on the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The second portion of the workshop will cover how employers can work towards inclusivity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. About this event The Cape Breton Partnership invites you to join us on December 13 for Workplace Inclusion: Newcomer Workshop for Employers. Part one of the workshop will include guests from the Cape Breton Partnership and YREACH Cape Breton who will provide employers an overview of supports and services that they can implement to help support their staff that are new to the Island (newcomers). Part two of the workshop, is an interactive group activity with lots of “aha” moments - led by Paul Pickering from Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS). This session will help employers take vital next steps, to increase awareness and skills for better retention, especially of international employees.
