In the first half of this lecture, Dr. Martel will present an overview of the concept of image-guided therapy (IGT), the introduction of new imaging modalities, and current applications in various clinical domains including surgical procedures and therapeutic interventions.

The second part of the session will provide a high-level overview of the field of artificial intelligence beginning with an overview of terminology and historical context to shed light on the current state of the field. The lecture progresses to a more technical focus to provide a basic understanding of what machine learning is and what common types of machine learning are, while considering a variety of image-guided therapy applications.
