Canada

  • The number of people employed declined in July by 2,800 jobs.
  • Full-time jobs increased alongside fewer part-time.
  • The rate of unemployment saw no change from last month, remaining at 6.4%.
  • The goods-producing sector added jobs (+12,100), while the service sector saw job reductions of 14,800.

Labour force: 21,912,100 (-11,300)
Employment: 20,513,600 (-2,800)

 

Atlantic Canada

  • Employment fell sharply in July, down from the previous month by 6,500 jobs.
  • Part-time jobs increased while full-time jobs declined.
  • The unemployment rate moved higher in the month to 7.7%, reaching its highest point since August 2022.
  • The goods-producing sector lost jobs in July (-600), while the service sector saw job reductions of 6,000.
