Join us for our virtual discussion to learn from global industry experts about opportunities to solve major ocean sector problems. The Ocean Startup Challenge will award $1.4 Million in 2021 to start and grow new ocean tech companies in Canada. Leading up to the launch of the Challenge, we're hosting a six-part series of industry-led presentations and interactive networking sessions. This speaker series will bring together ocean industry experts in shipping and transportation, fisheries and aquaculture, naval and defence, energy and marine bio-resources. You will hear from industry leaders who will discuss the challenges faced by each sector, highlight opportunities in the market, and share other insights into their respective fields. Volta & BBI New Program Information Session

Join Volta and BBI to learn more about a new program that will nurture the growth of Black and Indigenous entrepreneurs in Atlantic Canada Join Volta and the Black Business Initiative on Tuesday, January 26 at 4:00pm to learn more about an exciting, collaborative new program that will support the growth and development of Black and indigenous entrepreneurs in Atlantic Canada. The program will run twice per year in 2021, with the first cohort beginning in mid-March. Each cohort will last four months with up to 10 participants per session. During that period, participants will undergo intensive training to build out their business idea or career objective, while receiving support and mentorship from leading experts in various fields. The cohort will have access to a working lab, located in Volta’s Co-Working Space, to work alongside one another as they build out their ideas; they will also receive an honorarium for participating. Timelines for this program will align with further development opportunities and events, such as quarterly Pitch Competitions, Volta Cohort, and Volta LEAP. Feeding a Growing World Sustainably - Module 1 of  the Exploring Opportunities in Ocean Tech for Young Women Program The Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE) in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development – Nova Scotia, Ignite Labs, Dalhousie University’s Emera IDEAhub and DeepSense, and with support from IBM Canada and Engineers Nova Scotia, is thrilled to announce the launch of a program aimed at engaging young women in the region’s burgeoning ocean tech industry. Exploring Opportunities in Ocean Tech for Young Women is an extracurricular program being offered across the province to youth in grades 10-12 as part of a strategy to attract more under-represented groups to the marine industry. Featuring a monthly speaker series, mentoring program, and hands-on design-thinking workshop, this program will be led by women, for young women.
