Acadia Entrepreneurship Centre has partnered with Digital NS to offer FREE digital programming to youth in grades 6-8. This workshop will be held online and will be a 10 week series starting Jan 21. It will run Thursday evenings from 6pm - 8pm, ending March 25. With a day of presentation TBD. Elev8 is a digital program for students in grades 6-8. Build and test your own business ideas using technology and digital solutions while developing skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork and communication. Ron Allum, Managing Director at Ron Allum Deepsea Services, is a submarine designer, cave diver and inventor. Allum is regarded as one of the world’s most experienced and accomplished cave divers. In 1983 he led an expedition to Cocklebiddy Cave on Australia’s Nullarbor Plain. The expedition achieved a world record push of 6.24 km into the cave system. Meet our Panelists Dr. Sara Iverson Dr. Sara Iverson is a professor of Biology at Dalhousie University and the Scientific Director of the global Ocean Tracking Network (OTN). She is also affiliate faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Sara received her BSc in zoology from Duke University and her PhD in physiological ecology, working jointly with the Smithsonian Institution’s Department of Zoological Research and the University of Maryland. She held postdoctoral fellowships at Georgetown University and the Canadian Institute of Fisheries Technology, Technical University of Nova Scotia. Sara began her faculty career at Dalhousie in 1994 as a NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Canada) Women's Faculty Awardee. This workshop is designed for either new HPC users, or for experienced users either transitioning to Slurm or seeking to improve efficiency with the scheduler. Compute Canada’s national systems use a job scheduler called “Slurm”. In this session you will learn how Slurm works and how it allocates jobs, helping you to: minimize wait time by framing reasonable requests; ask for only the resources you need, to improve efficiency; increase throughput; run more jobs simultaneously; and troubleshoot and address crashes. Prerequisites: Completion of Introduction to Linux and Introduction to Shell Scripting, or prior experience with both.
