    FutureWave 2024

    FutureWave is TECHNATION’s annual hybrid event exploring the future of the tech workforce in Canada.     Expert Series — How to Foster a Neuro-Inclusive Workplace

    Neurodiversity is an umbrella term that includes Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and co-occurring mental health challenges. Individuals with neurodivergent brains may not think or behave in a ‘typical’ fashion. Yet, these differences are to be valued and accepted as an aspect of diversity rather than as abnormal or problematic. In this workshop, we will explore the strengths that neurodivergent employees can bring to your teams, how to identify the challenges they may face, and how you can accommodate their learning differences. From this workshop, you'll learn: Understanding of what neurodiversity is and how it impacts employment; Identify key areas where neurodivergent employees struggle and; Identify Accommodations for each subset of their struggle. Meet your facilitator: Keith Gelhorn, Founder & Chief Empowerment Officer, ADDvocacy ADDvocacy was started in 2012 as a social enterprise focused on supporting neurodivergent youth and adults navigating their transition to post-secondary, the workplace and/or entrepreneurship.     Quick Start Guide to Digital Accessibility for Nova Scotia Businesses Launch

    Nova Scotia businesses use digital materials and media, such as websites, PDF documents, videos, etc., so their customers and the public, can get information, ask questions, and purchase goods and services. Making this space more accessible for people with different disabilities is crucial. In this lunch, Lisa Snider from Access Changes Everything Inc. will present survey results from the recent Nova Scotia Business Online Accessibility Survey. In this survey, Nova Scotians with disabilities, and those who support us, shared their lived experiences, when accessing Nova Scotia business related digital media and materials, such as websites, PDF documents, videos, etc. These ‘first voice’ results were used to help form the free Quick Start Guide to Digital Accessibility for Nova Scotia Businesses. At this Power Lunch, the tips in this Quick Start Guide will be presented. Thank you to the Nova Scotia government for funding this project through the Business ACCESS-Ability grant.
