IP Strategy: An Essential Step Toward Commercialization

Online

Date & Time: Feb 1, 2024 @ 3:00 PM in Halifax Description: On the path to commercialization, many stakeholders ask about your company's intellectual property (IP) strategy – investors, strategic partners, and even funding organizations. But the IP strategy for natural products and processes can be particularly tricky to navigate. In this session, you'll hear practical strategies and insights from IP expert, Noel Courage of Bereskin Parr, and learn how to access free IP resources through Canada's Elevate IP program. This session will help you: • Gain awareness of the challenges and potential barriers to patenting a biobased or nature-derived innovation • Fill in knowledge gaps around IP strategies for trade secrets, patents, and trademarks • Identify product and process developments that may justify patenting versus keeping a trade secret • Help you articulate your IP strategy to stakeholders • Learn how to access IP resources through the new national program, Elevate IP As a special bonus, Noel will answer select questions submitted in advance by NPC members. Register now to submit your question! In addition, Shelley Hessian of Springboard Atlantic, a regional provider for Elevate IP, will explain how the national program provides IP support to Canadian companies, […]

BUSINESS AFTER HOURS: Chain Yard Cider

Celebrate International Networking week and join us for an evening of networking with Chain Yard Cider! About Chain Yard Cider: Chain Yard Urban Cidery started in 2017, driven by a group of partners with a shared passion for well-crafted, quality cider. Hailing from backgrounds in tourism, hospitality, and cider making, their combined experience fuelled the establishment of the first cidery in Halifax. A strategic choice led them to set up shop in Halifax's hip North End, where they transformed a former hair salon/café into a production facility and taproom. Chain Yard produces awesome, approachable, unique and traditional ciders made from 100% Nova Scotia apples. Embracing a wine-making approach, the cidery deliberately ferments their ciders slowly and at a cool temperature to preserve the nuanced flavors of the apples. Apples are sourced from small and large producers in the Annapolis Valley, ensuring a steady supply of juice throughout the year. The cidermaker draws fresh inspiration from each batch of juice, resulting in a dynamic selection of seasonal products alongside core ciders. The taproom at Chain Yard buzzes with a lively community energy, serving lunch, dinner, and late-night beverages daily. A seasonal menu is a highlight, featuring renowned fried chicken dishes, diverse vegan options, […]
