Our ocean and coasts provide a natural way of reducing the impact of greenhouse gases on our atmosphere, through sequestration of this carbon. Keynote Ken Buessler, Senior Scientist, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (www.whoi.edu) Ken is a senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution who specializes in the study of natural and manmade radionuclides in the ocean. He has served as chair of the marine chemistry and geochemistry department at WHOI, as executive scientist of the US joint global ocean fluxes planning and data management office and two years as an associate program director at the US National Science Foundation, division of ocean sciences, chemical oceanography program. In 2009, Ken was elected fellow of the American Geophysical Union and in 2011, he was noted as the top cited ocean scientist by the Times Higher Education for the decade 2000-2010.     McKinsey & Company’s global survey on reskilling reported that the proportion of companies addressing empathy and interpersonal skills doubled in 2020, while Deloitte predicts that soft skill-intensive occupations will account for two-thirds of all jobs by 2030.     More than 80% of NPower Canada alumni secure employment or enroll in higher education within 6 months of graduating, with 30-40% already placed into jobs upon completing training. Graduates launch digital careers in roles such as Help Desk Agent, Data Analyst, QA / Tester and Business Systems Analyst with companies like TELUS, Accenture and CIBC. NPower Canada is a registered charity launching underserved young adults ages 17-30 into meaningful digital careers. NPower Canada's virtually delivered programs provide youth with 15 weeks of no-cost, part-time tech skills training, including industry certifications, complemented by employability skills coaching and wraparound supports (including bus pass, interview clothing and laptops/WiFi based on financial need). Program participants are also connected directly with employers, job retention supports and five years of alumni services including continued education and mentorship. Youth do not need any prior background in tech to apply. They must have completed their high school, Dogwood or GED, and be eligible to work in Canada.
