Canada Health Infoway Series: Safer Prescribing Practices + Medication Management

From May to December 2021 We invite you to join us in this new era of virtual learning in a digital world and save the date for the Canada Health Infoway 2021 Virtual Partnership Series and Partnership Conference. If there’s one skill we have all honed over the last year, it is resilience. It’s not just about embracing our present reality, it is about leveraging it to create new methods of learning, and to bring the impossible into reach. That is what we have done with Canada Health Infoway’s Virtual Partnership Series and Conference. We launch on May 18 with a range of hour and half long sessions over the next six months. The series culminates in an entirely reimagined full-day virtual conference. With this unique format, we can go truly national. Your city is the host city. We’re broadcasting sessions to — and from — living rooms, basement and home offices spanning from coast, to coast, to coast. Topic: Animation with Interactive Society of Nova Scotia Have you ever wondered just how animated games are created? Join us to get the inside scoop from industry experts across the province! Our guests will give you tips and advice on how to start your animation career now! tech{LAB} is a program that allows anyone ages 8 and up to get hands-on with new technology! What is tech{LAB}? tech{LAB} is a FREE workshop that allows participants to get hands-on with new technology! These workshops are for anyone ages 8 and up who have an interest in technology, prototyping, or electronics. Bring a laptop if you have one! These workshops are run on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 3 PM-4 PM. What Happens at tech{LAB}? Spend the first half-hour of each workshop going over the technical information on the topic. Take what you’ve just learned and apply it! Topic: Coding Part 1 Coding is a basic literacy in the digital age, and it is important for kids to understand and be able to work with and understand the technology around them. In the first session, we are going to learn all of the basics and understand the importance of each programming language. tech{LAB} is a program that allows anyone ages 8 and up to get hands-on with new technology! What is tech{LAB}? tech{LAB} is a FREE workshop that allows participants to get hands-on with new technology! This film screening & discussion will feature Shalini Kantayya's film ' Coded Bias'. This event is in recognition of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science. The hope is that this screening and discussion will encourage reflection and passionate collaboration between participants on the topic of bias in STEM. Coded Bias explores the fallout of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini´s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces and women accurately, and her journey to push for the first-ever legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all. This film is rated M for Mature Audience (17+) and is open to all. Screening will take place via Zoom, a link will be emailed to all those registered. A discussion will follow the screening and will be led by Dr. Shohini Ghose, award-winning Quantum Physicist and NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering, Ontario region.

Hoist sessions take place one Saturday a month (with the exception of July, August and December) and are targeted for teens ages 12 to 19. Topics change each month and are based on current trends, as well as the needs and interests of Hoist participants. This helps make each session unique and fun for the participants. March's Topic: When you are looking to start a business, you often have an amazing idea, but are entering into a space that already has a lot of competition. It is then up to you to look at what products are similar to yours and what is going to make you stand out . During this activity, we will be comparing and trying similar products made by different companies and seeing why they are good or bad.

The urban-rural divide in Canada describes disadvantages for rural communities in terms of economic growth, population density, income distribution, career opportunities, quality of life, etc. Yet while the global pandemic resulted in unprecedented job loss in 2020, rural areas have seen the fastest overall employment recovery. Furthermore, while only 18% of the current population in Canada lives in rural areas, research conducted by Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship predicts that rural areas will achieve rapid population growth in the coming years.
