Can AR and VR Help Build a More Diversity-Inclusive Workspace?

The technology industry, not unlike many other industries, has been typically male-dominated in the past. However, new technologies, and a more virtually connected world, have been increasing access to information, technology concepts, and other thought leaders. Now, minority thought leaders are able to connect, engage, and participate in technology concepts more than ever before by using these same technologies. For instance, using AR, VR, and XR technologies, female youths can connect with leading women in STEM careers around the globe, and even those in more remote locations that would not traditionally have access to advanced programs can access higher learning resources. Combine this with the fact that AR and VR are proving an ability to create higher levels of empathy, and an ability to communicate new narratives on race, diversity, and inclusivity and a world that formerly seemed off-limits is becoming a lot more inviting to the diverse minds that are capable of advancing it even further. In this panel, we will open the discussion to how AR, VR, and XR technologies are creating a more diverse and inclusive world, both within the industry and within the technology sector as a whole. ISNS Industry Session: GUERRILLA MARKETING 101

When should I start marketing my game? What can I do to get more wish lists? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? This is the kind of question we PR and marketing people get all the time (well, maybe not the one about swallows). Nothing can guarantee success -- but there are a lot of ways to guarantee failure. One of them is not taking marketing seriously enough -- doing too little, too late. Another is thinking you cannot put a marketing strategy in place without lots of money. Let's chat about what marketing is really about: understanding your audience, finding the best ways to reach out to them, and having fun making them part of your story. Antonio Santo is the Founder and Director of Jaleo, a PR, marketing and consulting agency for indie games. After years of working as a journalist specialized in culture, technology, and video games, he decided to switch to the Dark Side of PR to sustain his bad habit of eating three times a day and paying the bills. Since then, he's worked with indie hits such as Gremlins, Inc., Battle Brothers, Dyson Sphere Program, and bigger games such as Mount […]
