This session is about businesses that want to use data to make decisions. As a group we will discuss the difficulties of accessing, linking, and reporting from multiple sources of data. Interactive Reports built in either Microsoft’s Power Pivot (Excel) or Power BI Desktop offer a shorter, straighter pathway to improve efficiency and accuracy. The best part is that Excel is on most computers, and experienced staff can quickly learn to use both products.

Dan MacLeod
Dan is the Manager of data analytics, consulting, and training. In his first career, Dan was a Senior Sales Manager with MT&T (now Bell). He was responsible for sales force automation, and held several Sales Management roles including Data Communications, Mobile Radio, and Cellular service, and in small/medium business telecommunications. Dan introduced Cognos (now owned by IBM) data analytics software to MT&T.
Dan learned and has been using Power Query and Power Pivot in Excel since 2012 with Dunvegan’s regional and national clients. He is certified by Power Pivot Pro and has been working diligently to stay current with Microsoft Power BI Desktop since it was first introduced. Power BI Desktop is constantly being updated (11 times a year) and has become the flagship Business Intelligence product for Microsoft. Dunvegan is not affiliated with Microsoft; it just uses their products. Dan’s focus when training people to use data analytics is practical: use your numbers to improve and grow your business.
Ken Grant
Ken is the Managing Partner. His first career was as a school Principal with the Halifax Regional School Board. He was responsible for curriculum and learning, staff development through training and team building. His special interests are in leadership, continuous improvement, and implementation. Ken has his M.Ed. from Dalhousie and holds a certificate in Adult Education from Henson College.
Along with Dan, Ken co-wrote and delivered the career education course, “Planning Your Second Career;” and the accessory sales training course for Toyota Canada.Ken’s experience as Executive Director of the Greater Burnside Business Association has given great insight into regional growth plans. Given his educational background, he pays close attention to the current skill levels in business and industry and to the training required to close the gap. As Managing Partner, Ken works to align the Needs Assessment with the Scope and Sequence of the Training Plan so that the Interactive Reports are put into routine use.
