We are pleased to welcome Logan Oderkirk from Mount Saint Vincent University to Digital Nova Scotia! Logan will be joining our Projects team as a Program Coordinator for the summer term.
Tell us about yourself!
I am 20 and a 2nd year Bachelor of Public Relations Student at the Mount. I was born and raised right here in Halifax Nova Scotia. I love keeping up with the latest and greatest technology. You can always ask me what phone is coming out or what CPU you should put in your next rig. I love playing video games like League of Legends and Civilization VI with my friends. Naturally, I am a PC gamer as I couldn’t help myself but to build my own computer.I am also a political nerd. I always have my eye on the news and volunteer on campaigns across the province. Lastly, ever since I was young I have been super passionate about the environment and how important it is to leave our earth better than we inherited it. I love the great outdoors and spending time in Nova Scotia’s many beautiful forests or the amazing coastline.
Can you tell us something about yourself that isn’t in your bio?
I have only left the Maritimes two times. Once to Ontario (we drove) and once to Alberta (I flew). I have never left the country. (I wish to change that sometime soon)
What do you love most about your program at university?
I love that this degree is so widely applicable to any industry you wish to go to. There is no other degree that gives you so many skills and opportunities so early on and lets you spread your wings and explore non-profits, government and private industry. I am so thankful that I get to have access to things like co-op during my degree so when I enter the workforce I already have industry experience.
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?
As I said before, I am a huge tech head and it makes me giddy seeing all of the amazing projects and things that tech companies are creating. The fact that is happening right here in my hometown is even more amazing.
I am super excited to see what our members are doing and I can’t wait to how I can help them by working here at Digital NS
So it’s your first week, what do you hope to accomplish while you’re with us?
As this is my first co-op, I really want to apply the theory I learned from class and really gain some new skills like managing multiple programs at the same time. I also want to challenge myself and I think the tech industry is a great place to do that as it is constantly changing and evolving and we need to change with it.
What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?
I am a huge monarchist. I love the royal family and the Queen and hold deepest respect for them and all they do for the Commonwealth.
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
Naturally the very first place I would go is the United Kingdom. There is nothing quite like the UK as they have so much history and lots to explore.
