Welcome to Digital Nova Scotia, Aishwarya!

May 31, 2021

The Digital Nova Scotia team is growing, we’ve added a new member to our team!

Born and raised in a small South Asian country Nepal, Aishwarya Shrestha was intrigued by Halifax being such a vibrant tight-knit community surrounded by the beautiful Atlantic ocean, she decided to move to Halifax in 2016 to pursue her Bachelors in Sociology at Saint Mary’s University. Graduated last year with several co-op work and volunteering experiences at Saint Mary’s and NSCC, Aishwarya has a background in planning and organizing orientation events, developing training and facilitating programs catered to enrich student life, transition, and employment preparation.

Passionate about working for nonprofit organizations with a purpose to empower communities and build capacity, she decided to join DNS as a project coordinator to help the tech sector grow through her strong organization, communication, and relationship-building expertise. When not working, she is either exploring the beautiful Nova scotia beaches and trails or checking out the upcoming trendy restaurants downtown offering diverse cuisines with her peers.

We asked Aishwarya some quick questions to help introduce her to the DNS community, here are her responses;

The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?

The tech industry is new to me. I am keen on learning about the recent developments in tech and what our members and partners are up to. Also interested to know the factors driving the rapid expansion of the tech industry in Nova Scotia in the past couple of years.

So, you’ve finished one week with us – how was it?

Everyone at DNS is super collaborative and supportive. I love the work culture here and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know everyone and the various projects they are working on. The projects I will be involved in sound super exciting.. the possibilities are endless! Looking forward to making an impact in the community.

What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?

I love to dance! Especially Zumba, which is a latin/international dance form, super high energy and great for fitness. As a hobby I would love to become a Zumba instructor in the future.

If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?

Realistically Nepal because I haven’t seen my family in a long time due to covid. But ideally Australia. It seems like such a magnificent place with the most vibrant cities along with beautiful reefs, beaches, and wildlife. I would love to visit and explore all they have to offer!
