Digital Twin of Organizations Adoption Program

In partnership with Dalhousie University, and Landmark Decisions Inc., the Digital Twinning for an Organization (DTO) Adoption Program enables Atlantic Canadian small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) manufacturers to get the consulting, staff, and education required to adopt DTO simulation modeling.

Through generous funding from NGen and ACOA, this program will provide $70,000 of value for consulting services, wage subsidies, software licenses, and training required to adopt and maintain DTO modeling adoption and strategy to five (5) manufacturers in Atlantic Canada.

A Digital Twin of an Organization (DTO) is defined as “a dynamic software model of any organization that relies on operational and contextual data to understand how an organization operationalizes its business model, connects with its current state, responds to changes, deploys resources, and delivers customer value.”

Benefits of Digital Twinning for Organizations

DTO modelling empowers manufacturers to:

Gain a comprehensive understanding of both operational and cost flows across production and the relationship of support processes, including maintenance, supply chain, HR, finance, and sales & marketing;
Simulate the effects of organizational changes, such as process improvements, Lean initiatives, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and production support optimization and;
Project the future impact of output/pricing scenarios, providing valuable insights into the true cost and profitability of products and services.

About this program

This pilot program will provide 5 selected SME manufacturers in Atlantic Canada with:

DTO Implementation: We’ll help you develop and deploy a customized digital twin of your organization
Expert Coaching: Get guidance from leading DTO experts who will coach you through the entire process
Hands-On Training: Participate in specialized DTO workshops and learn how to create, manage, and maintain your digital twin model(s)
ROI-Driven Use Cases: Through this project, we will help you identify the ROI and benefits of your DTO implementation

Program Benefits

Who Qualifies?

To qualify for the DTO Adoption Program, your company must meet the following criteria:

Your manufacturing business must be based in Atlantic Canada and have less than 500 employees
Commit to hiring a Dalhousie University Engineering co-op student for one work term of 14-16 weeks to support the implementation of DTO (approx. $4,500 commitment – 66% of wages will be covered through Dalhousie’s Emerging Now program)
Ability to dedicate a min. of 3 company employees and the co-op student to attend the Implementing a DTO for Manufacturing workshop (4 half-day virtual sessions) (approx. $2,800 commitment)
Ability to dedicate a min. of 1 company employee and the co-op student to attend the DTO Modeler workshop (4 half-day virtual sessions) to gain in-depth training on the Canadian DTO software (approx. $1,400 commitment)
Assign a min. of 3 company employees to assist the student in the development of the DTO model. The total time commitment for the total of these 3 individuals would be about 20-30 combined days for the 4-month term (approximately ½ day per week per employee). Suggested roles for these employees would be operations lead hand / supervisor / manager, Continuous Improvement (CI) lead, Business / Data Analyst, Production Planner, Financial Analyst, and/or Maintenance Leads.
