By making better use of data through leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, DeepSense helps develop useful predictive models, analytical prototypes, and applications for use in the ocean economy. Andrea Murray, New Grad Talent Acquisition Partner for Early Professionals at IBM, will guide the DeepSense community through a session to help you prepare for the next step in your career. You will learn how best to position yourself when applying for a new job, co-op or internship. This session will explore: Recommendations for writing a resume for a specific job Writing a quality cover letter How to prepare for an interview Employment opportunities at IBM Who should attend: Students looking for their first job after graduation Students in the middle of their degree applying for internships and co-ops Those interested in a refresher of what to do with their resumes Andrea Murray joined IBM in July 2020 after graduating from Saint Mary’s University with a Commerce Degree. She joined the Project Management practice through the IBM Associates program designed for new grads. Andrea is now the Talent Acquisition Partner for Early Professionals.

About this event Rick Power is an Innovation Executive with IBM, where he has spent his entire, 35-year career at the leading edge of technology, from mainframes to PCs, from the rise of the Internet to cloud computing and artificial intelligence. When asked, Rick always says he's still with IBM because the company is large enough to have lots of very different and extremely interesting roles. He's been able to convince IBM to let him tackle those fun jobs and has held national roles for almost 20 years now, while keeping Halifax as home base. He will speak to some of today's hot technologies and then offer his thoughts about how you can launch and then guide your career in such a way that you'll always have challenges, options and opportunities. Ocean of Data Challenge: Coastal Communities and Climate Change

COVE and DeepSense with special guest Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) are hosting the second Ocean Data Challenge. This free event will span two evenings and begins on February 8th (6 pm) with an introduction to the Challenge, presentations from experts, and the chance to ask questions to help idea exploration. The Challenge concludes one week later, on February 15th with presentations from participants to our panel of judges. This challenge allows you to work at your own pace to explore ways to learn about ocean data, meet others with the same interests and bring together unique skills to create a team. This is a fantastic way to show off your design, programming or other talents. Not to mention more than $2,000 in prizes! The challenge is broken down into three Challenge Streams: Under the Water, On the Water, and Around the Water. Individuals and teams will be asked to choose one stream and provide interdisciplinary ideas for helping understand the coastal community impacts. In this Discovery Session Andrea will guide the DeepSense community through preparing your resume as you move forward in your career. We will be diving deeper into what it takes to build a resume that will stand out by reviewing your resumes! We are looking for students to submit their resumes to be reviewed. Please note that submitted resumes will be shared during the session, so ensure the resume is scrubbed of personal details (eg. Name and contact info), the important details that should be kept include your experience, education, objective statement, skills, certifications, etc. If you are interested in submitting your resume for review, please email it to info@deepsense.ca by Monday, March 28th at 12pmAST. Ocean of Data Challenge: One Port City Begins

About this event Halifax Port Authority, PSA Halifax, COVE and DeepSense are are hosting the third Ocean Data Challenge. This free event will kick off on Monday, May 2nd at 4pm ADT with an introduction to the Challenge, presentations from experts, and the chance to ask questions to help idea exploration. Participants submit their video presentation on Monday, May 16th and the winners are announced on Friday, May 20th. Recently PSA Halifax acquired the Fairview Cove container terminal, and now owns both the Fairview Cove and the Atlantic Hub container terminals in Halifax, making our port unified like few others. The Port of Halifax now has one terminal operator, one railroad operator, and one port authority. This change helps Halifax become a One Port City and will create new opportunities for our community. This Data Challenge will invite participants to imagine new ways to drive port efficiency and sustainability, and to help us better understand and communicate the benefits of being a single container terminal operator port.
