Welcome to Digital Nova Scotia, Sam!

January 11, 2022

The entire Digital Nova Scotia team is very excited to introduce you to our Communications Coordinator, Sam Richardson!

Born and raised in Ottawa, Sam is one of the newest additions to DNS and joins us for 4 months on a co-op term. Since moving to Halifax in 2020, Sam has been delighted by the maritime friendliness and is currently in his second year working towards a bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University. Sam comes to DNS after 3 years of experience organizing and running public programs for the City of Ottawa, including summer camps, sports development sessions, and other community oriented initiatives. He is thrilled to carry on his passion for community connectedness into the digital sphere of Nova Scotian business!

Sam values effective communication practices, relationship-building, and writing, and is eager to add to his skillset. In his role at DNS, Sam will be sharing member stories and profiles, monitoring our job portal, contributing to weekly newsletters, assisting with graphic design and supporting colleagues on a variety of other projects. Outside of DNS, Sam enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing sports, and taking in Nova Scotia’s natural scenery.

We asked Sam some quick questions to help introduce him to the DNS community, here are his responses;

What excites you the most about the tech sector in Nova Scotia?

The opportunity for growth, with Nova Scotia’s population being slightly older on average than most Canadian provinces, there is great room for growth in the tech sector. Having met so many wonderful folks from Nova Scotia, I am very excited to help empower people with tools that can help them find success with the help of technology.

What’s your favourite social media platform?

Although I am not a huge fan of social media in general, I would have to say that Instagram is my favourite platform. I can definitely be caught scrolling through sports clips and funny videos from time to time.

What do you love most about your program at University?

What I love most about my program at Dalhousie is definitely the mandatory three co-op terms. I think it’s great to gather so much experience before even finishing the degree, and I look forward to making meaningful connections with people who I meet during my work experiences.

What is your dream career? Where do you see yourself in five years?

There is no one career that I have my sights set on as a dream job. At some point, it would be great to be involved in organizations that deal with sport, recreation, or community connectedness. Having said this, in five years I hope to be working a job that I enjoy, and that is meaningful to the community. My philosophy is less concerned with concrete long-term goals, and more focused on excelling on what I am doing in the present.

What’s a hashtag that you keep tabs on?

A hashtag that I keep tabs on is #HighlightoftheNight. I am an avid sports fan and love to stay up to date with sports news, team trends, and the best plays that happen every night.

What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?

My guitar, a sombrero, and a cold beverage.
