Welcome to Digital Nova Scotia, Lisa!

September 22, 2021

Please give a warm welcome to Lisa Coates, a student from Eastern College who will be joining Digital Nova Scotia this fall!

Tell us about yourself!

My background is unique; a 16-year veteran Realtor, pioneer Nova Scotian black-female general contractor, and terminal Cancer fighter. In short, I am just an average 21st-century woman who found her voice, and in the fall of 2020 I was laid off as a construction project manager. Shortly after I heard of the Unemployment Education Assistance program and applied to Eastern College’s Business Digital Marketing program. I thought with my background of growing a thriving business and real estate practice it would be a good fit, to exercise my creativity and expand my skills more intelligently than physically- to keep my doctors and family happy!

The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry? Is there a particular area in tech that excites you the most?

Collaborating with like-minded individuals, expanding business relations, removing borders, and increasing the reach of SMEs. A few areas that excite me the most are SMO, SEO, Graphic Design, Rebranding, and Strategic Planning!

What do you love most about your program at University?

Everything, my program at Eastern College opened my eyes to the power of possibilities and I’ve recently enrolled at Mount Saint Vincent University for the Winter 2022 semester!

What’s something you’re passionate about that might surprise us?

I’m a hopeless Romantic, and love Pixar and Disney movies.

If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?

The Bahamas!
