The IT factor: Hanatech finds success in the IT industry

It’s been nearly a decade since Hanatech was first established back in 2013, and since then, Co-founder and CTO Ali Hamidi has seen much success. The Halifax-based IT company offers a wide range of services, including business continuity, disaster and recovery plan systems, and network design. After realizing the opportunities within the Internet of Things, or IoT, Hamidi established Hanatech IoT five years later in 2018. The sister company focuses on providing customer solutions through machine learning and artificial intelligence. “Since everything is leaning towards IP communication, we found a niche market there,” said Hamidi. “So rather than just do the IT service, we thought maybe we have to have our own platform and our own solution offering to the builders.” Operating two businesses during a global pandemic, however, was no easy feat, but Hamidi persevered and learned a lot along the way. “At the initial stages of the pandemic we were able to close contracts with some of our customers. Since we were a bit silent, we could focus on some of our products and we took advantage of that time to focus on what we were doing and that’s when we developed some of the cool products we’re using now,” he said. And as businesses around the world shifted to digital, the demand for IT services skyrocketed. “Since the way we were working changed, there were some new opportunities we’ve never had,” said Hamidi. “The demand in the IT world has dramatically increased with the value of being connected and being able to be mobile and work from anywhere.” Maryam Barekati, a technical sales specialist at Hanatech, says one of the most important things the team is working on right now is their 24/7 unlimited technical support, remote or on-site. “We are really working hard to get customer satisfaction for our services, and one of the things that really helps us is the location,” she said. “Being in Halifax, we are able to serve customers on-site and it is one of our biggest advantages.” Reflecting on the past ten years, Hamidi says he feels encouraged. While there have been challenges, the team has continued to find ways to work through them, creating not only one, but two successful companies right here in Halifax.
