Tailored Telecommunication Solutions with Seaside Communications

March 8, 2021

Providing telecommunication solutions to residents and businesses across much of Nova Scotia, Seaside Communications offers tailored solutions to their customers. They provide a variety of services such as cabled television, internet and home phone to areas of Cape Breton including Glace Bay, New Waterford, Louisbourg, St Peters, Baddeck and surrounding areas, as well as fixed wireless internet and VoIP telephone service to 10 counties in Nova Scotia.

With their cabled television service, they are proud to have local TV stations, with local content and creations airing daily.

Locally Owned and Operated

They really mean it when they say that they are 100% locally staffed, owned, and operated!

Seaside Communications has been a locally owned business for over 45 years, and currently employs approximately 100 full-time employees from the local area.  Since the day they opened their doors for business, they have always been committed to supporting local charities in the communities they serve, while delivering exceptional value and service to their customers. When you call Seaside Communications for help, you’re speaking with someone from your community.

Each Christmas, they air their two annual community telethons: the “Jack Bonaparte: Caring-is-Sharing Telethon”, and the “Combined Christmas Giving Telethon”. Through these local broadcasts, Cape Breton families band together to support those in need. And for their sports fans, they’re there each year to bring you annual coverage of the “Simon Chiasson Basketball Tournament”, which reunites high school teammates, coaches, and new friends for a fun and competitive week of basketball.

Dedicated to supporting their Community

One of their main areas of concentration is their Fire Department Initiative. Started in 2014, this initiative sees them providing free webspace and internet service to fire departments in Nova Scotia. Currently, 60 fire departments are set up with free Wi-Fi internet service for the members and the public. There are also 32 fire departments taking advantage of their free web space offering. The biggest part of this initiative is an annual cash draw of $2000 given to 2 fire departments in each of the 10 counties they serve, with many county municipalities contributing to this endeavor. To date, over $250,000 has been donated to the departments.

They are extremely community-minded in other areas too, including:

  • Being involved with the Glace Bay Food Bank and their annual Jack Bonaparte Caring is Sharing Telethon for the past 29 years
  • Assisting with the annual Combined Christmas Giving Telethon in New Waterford
  • Sponsoring the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay with their main stage acts
  • Sponsoring the United Way of Cape Breton in their programming to help reduce child poverty
  • Teaming up with Townhouse Glace Bay, Salvation Army New Waterford, and the St Peter’s area for a School Supplies drive which sees over 100 backpacks filled with supplies to be distributed to children.
  • And working with other organizations such as L’Arche Cape Breton, Every Women’s Center, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, Simon Chiasson Basketball Tournament and the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative.

Keeping families Connected

“COVID-19 has definitely impacted our day-to-day operations.” Says Angela Bresson, Social Media Manager at Seaside Communications. “Being a telecommunications supplier, we have the crucial job of keeping customers connected, while going the extra mile to keep everyone safe while doing so. We have increased our Personal Protective Equipment and safety protocols for employees, made remote working readily available, and have committed to giving back more in 2021 in community sponsorships. We produced several PSA’s to go out into the community to show our support of essential workers, remind everyone we are in this together, and to showcase just how resilient we are.”

2021 brings a new year and new advancements in Seaside Communications technology such as Harmonic announcing that they are helping Seaside Communication transform its broadband operations with Harmonic’s industry-leading CableOS. With upgrades happening across their cable system, 2021 will see Seaside Communications connect more people than ever.

It’s no surprise Seaside Communications was given the “Workplace Excellence” award at the 2019 Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Awards. The best parts about working at Seaside Communications is working alongside a talented team of employees and their amazing customers. Their workplace culture is one of camaraderie and friendliness. Seaside takes the health and well being of it’s employees seriously through a YMCA corporate membership package, financial prosperity through a partnership with a local financial institute, and employee assistance programming for staff and family. Prior to COVID-19 they would regularly get together to go bowling, go golfing, and take part in group hikes. They also have a fantastic time celebrating holidays, including Canada Day BBQ’s, a Christmas Dinner and Dance and Secret Santa gift exchanges and pot luck lunches. Key qualities in potential employees include enthusiasm in the company and its mission, a strong work ethic, and community-mindedness.
