Placemaking 4G: Shaping the Future of Work in Nova Scotia

April 17, 2025

At the root of Placemaking 4G (P4G), a Halifax-based recruitment agency, lies a passion for fostering human connection, embracing diversity, and championing equity and inclusion. In this conversation, Bradley Daye, co-Founder and CEO of Placemaking 4G (P4G), dives into how these core values help shape their team and operations. He shares exciting new initiatives, services, and courses that reflect P4G’s mission to make a meaningful impact in the recruitment world.

The Core Values Driving P4G

P4G operates on a foundation of values like humility, community, trust and courage and the team embodies these principles in everything they do. From their work with partners and clients to the way they hold themselves accountable, these values are at the core of every interaction and decision.

Bradley emphasizes the importance of these values being more than just words on a page. “It was really intentional for us to not just have the words on the page, but to have each broken down and to have each have behaviors associated with them,” Bradley explains.I think the way that our values show up when it comes to the work that we do is with partners of ours, clients and it’s in the way that we hold space.”

Encouraging Authenticity in the Workplace

P4G advises candidates, “Don’t be generic, be yourself.” And in this spirit of authenticity, the team embraces the same approach. Bradley believes that we sometimes focus too much on what we produce instead of who we want to be. This focus can limit our ability to show up fully and authentically. When it comes to recruitment, this mindset change means eliminating the use of phrases such as “cultural fit.”

“Whether it be our school systems, or the structures of the world that we live in, we’re often focused on what we want to do and productivity,” Bradley notes.

He goes on to add, “We believe in the opposite of ‘fit’, we strive for belonging. To encourage people to bring their authentic self, bringing their full self into the process allows us to highlight the ways in which they can contribute to the culture— without having to fit into it.”

The Foundations of Belonging Course

P4G developed the Foundations of Belonging course to empower all team members in a workplace, to show how they can each contribute to a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.. Recognizing that the province is growing and changing, the team at P4G  is dedicated to ensuring that the workplaces are reflecting the diverse communities they serve and live in.

“We want to give all Nova Scotians an opportunity to understand our history, how we got here, and the fundamentals of belonging,” Bradley adds. “The course touches on 11 key topics and includes eight hours of in-depth learning. It provides a safe, confidential space for participants to work through the material at their own pace, with the option to engage in follow-up and debrief conversations if desired.”

Measuring Impact: How P4G Tracks Success

In P4G’s annual impact report, the company details qualitative and quantitative measures of how the team has engaged with its customers, interest holders, community members, and partners. The 2024 report will feature key stats such as number of searches conducted, candidates placed, demographics, and client stories and testimonials.

Adapting to Evolving Workplace Needs

P4G noticed a critical need for people to feel seen and heard during the recruitment process. They realized that simply changing the recruitment was not enough, as many organizations fail to maintain inclusive spaces beyond the hiring process. This became their central focus for P4G and sparked the creation of courses and workshops like The Foundations of Belonging

“In the future, we hope to build even more tech solutions that will continue to support people from a recruiting perspective,” said Bradley.

Future Goals and Innovations

Looking ahead, P4G hopes to lead more philanthropic initiatives, aiming to create a lasting impact in the province.

“When it comes to technology at P4G, we’re very fortunate to have Patrick Adeyemi, our Head of Innovation and Technology. Like everything that we do, he ensures that equity is at the core of everything system he develops internally,” Bradley explained.

Patrick Adeyemi has built systems that reduce biases and barriers to ensure a fairer recruitment process for candidates. Thanks to his innovations, P4G is changing the HR field.

Expanding Accessibility: Direct-to-Consumer Workshops

P4G is broadening its services to reach individuals directly, moving beyond their traditional business-to-business model, which includes partnerships with the various local chambers of commerce, Digital Nova Scotia and  Tribe Network, to name a few.

“In May we will be offering our first workshop open to anyone from any organization,” Bradley announced. “ This allows us to create spaces where  people can access learning that their organization might not yet be ready to invest in .”

Adding courses for individuals allows them to be autonomous with their learning, even if their employer organization is not ready to make the investment for everyone on the team.
