Opportunity awaits with The Technology Advancement Program (TAP)!

Have you ever hired a high-school co-op student? Now’s your chance to welcome bright new perspectives from enthusiastic young talent! The Technology Advancement Program (TAP) is looking for employers to offer opportunities for students to engage with the tech sector. The program is a public education program in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Early Education and Childhood Development, and industry stakeholders. Bringing together education and industry, TAP is an incredible opportunity aimed at fast-tracking students towards a successful career in tech. Students earn both a high school diploma and a two-year Information Technology Diploma (IT web programming and IT Programming) from Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) with no costs associated for students or their families. TAP creates a robust pipeline of talented future employees and potential entrepreneurs to support the development and growth of our industry. The program offers a combination of classroom learning and experiential learning with opportunities for mentorships, internships, and co-operative education placements. Graduates of the program will not only gain important industry skills and experience, they will also be first in line for job interviews with participating partnered companies. In addition to the benefits offered for students, TAP provides some unique opportunities for employers. By partnering with the program, businesses can observe potential future employees in a “long-term interview” context and participate in shaping the future workforce. Participating schools include Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School, Cole Harbour District High School and JL Ilsley High School. Think you’d like to get involved? • Provide career mentoring
• Participate in a workplace challenge
• Provide a workplace tour
• Host a job shadowing student
• Hire a co-operative education student from high school or NSCC
• Provide an internship for a highschool student
• Participate in work integrated learning with NSCC
