As the world continues to rapidly evolve, keeping up with current trends in the workforce is not for the faint at heart. For those looking to enter the workforce, navigating the ever-changing job market can be daunting. To offset these challenges, post-secondary education institutions are offering supports for students to help set them up for success.
Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC)—known for its focus on meeting industry needs and leading-edge programming—is finding new opportunities for their students to gain relevant skills in the modern world.
Recently, NSCC revamped its IT Embedded Systems Programming Certificate into IT Programming for Internet of Things (IoT). Designed through industry input, the program focuses on data exchanges between Internet-operated devices, such as phones, wearable technologies, home security systems and vehicles. The college recognizes the need for training in the growing IoT area and are offering the program to help students keep up with the latest technology demands.
This progressive attitude can also be seen in NSCC’s brand new IT Programming for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Certificate. Students will get a chance to learn about the growing field of AI, as well as technical skills, including creating and using Deep Neural Networks. NSCC understands that new careers will arise as major industries continue to adopt AI, and being ahead of the curve is critical for success.
“This program was developed with industry for industry, ensuring your skills are current and relevant,” they say on their website.
This forward-thinking is at the heart of their mission: to build Nova Scotia’s economy and quality of life through education and innovation.
NSCC’s focus for learner success extends beyond simply understanding the job market needs. The college is also working to build diversity as a core strength.
“We’re committed to creating a culture of genuine inclusion–one that’s free from discrimination and harassment,” said Andrew Lafford, NSCC’s Dean of Technology and Environment.
“The college has committed to the continuous development of its social, economic, cultural and environmental sustainability.”
NSCC is constantly adapting its programs to meet the ever-changing needs of the developing tech sector in Nova Scotia. We at DNS look forward to seeing the talent their graduates bring to our workforce after such a progressive experience with NSCC.
