The Graduate to Opportunity program provides an incentive to Nova Scotia employers to hire recent graduates for permanent, full-time jobs paying at least $30,000 a year. The incentive is 25% of the first year’s salary and 12.5% of the second year’s salary and it’s available to small businesses, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations.
Now, employers who hire women in occupations in which they’re under-represented – such as ICT jobs – or people who identify as racially visible, persons with disabilities, Aboriginal or international graduates will receive an additional 10%, for a total of 35%, of the first year’s salary. This “diversity bonus” was created to encourage employers to take a closer look at women applicants, as well as people from other under-represented groups, and discover what tremendous benefits diversity can bring to a workplace.
