Halifax-based Vedesi builds ‘Dwelleroo’ to address evolving property management needs

As property managers across Atlantic Canada adapt to a tightening housing market, many are re-examining how they market units, screen tenants and manage large multi-unit buildings. Vedesi intends to solve these issues with their flagship software service, Dwelleroo

Vedesi — a company offering change management, innovative branding and cutting-edge web solutions — developed the digital property management platform to help track tenant applications, run background checks and communicate with tenants. Over time, the software has evolved to allow tenants to submit maintenance requests and to keep track of rent payments.

“It’s a one-stop shop that can help property managers manage their whole fleet of buildings,” says Vedesi co-founder Sam Oladimeji.

Sam had the idea for the platform after a family member had a negative experience renting out his home. He says it was initially designed as a way to ensure the trustworthiness of tenants through both credit checks and ratings from previous landlords.

“I checked around Atlantic Canada and everything I see is tailored towards Toronto or Alberta or Vancouver,” says Sam. “So I felt, ‘Why can’t we have one here?’ And that’s where Dwelleroo came in.”

Since then, Dwelleroo has established its core feature set and is now in the process of rolling out a specialized premium version with additional functionality, alongside an enterprise version for managers with many rental units.

“It’s been a major learning experience for us,” says Sam. “It taught us that strong software requires more than just good code. It needs deep industry understanding, solid IT architecture and ongoing iterations.”

According to Sam, being based in Halifax has played a significant role in enabling the growth of the platform.

“Almost everything you see in Toronto, in Vancouver, you can find here. Maybe on a smaller scale, but the potential to scale nationally and globally is there,” says Sam, adding it can often be much harder to break into the industry in a larger city.

“With the support of industry experts and organizations like DNS, you can get into places where people can see you.”

Beyond Dwelleroo, Vedesi’s core business remains IT consulting. The company works with startups, small businesses and larger organizations, focusing on helping clients address specific operational and digital challenges. Vedesi takes a discovery-first approach to better understand a client’s needs and audits their digital presence to uncover issues they may not yet be aware of. From there, they break down the work needed into iterations, communicating with clients along the way to align priorities and adapt as needs evolve.

Vedesi’s ability to both design and build websites sets the company apart, allowing for customized solutions tailored to each client’s unique requirements.

Moving forward, Sam plans to leverage that expertise to continue growing their team, consulting capabilities and software services. Drawing on the lessons learned from building Dwelleroo, Vedesi will continue to innovate, developing software and consulting solutions shaped by real-world challenges and the needs of the businesses they work with.
