From the store to your door in a click with Couryah

April 12, 2023

Grocery shopping is as easy as one, two, delivered thanks to the innovative minds behind one Halifax-based business.

Couryah is an on-demand delivery platform that has been serving customers in the Halifax Regional Municipality since May 2019. It’s a one-stop app for all your local needs, including grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants and more.

“Once an order is placed, the system will match with the courier in a close proximity. The courier will be able to see all the customer and order details, shop for it at the store and deliver it to the customer’s doorstep,” said cofounder and COO Omar Soliman.

“One of the new perks we have is our shoppers are able to match in-store pricing and weekly deals.”

Couryah’s platform consists of nine mobile and web applications, including iOS and Android apps for customers, partners and shoppers on the ground.

“One of the fun facts about Couryah is that we served Daniel Radcliffe—Harry Potter—when he was here in 2020,” said Soliman.

There have been many improvements since Couryah began as an MVP website from Shopify, said Soliman. The company officially launched its apps last summer, which he said was “extremely exciting.”

“We’re able to get the whole ecosystem together and we’ve been growing and adding new partners, while improving our processes as well,” he said.

Couryah’s vision is to build a platform that creates hyperlocal networks within suburban communities that connect and empower all its users to improve their livelihood. The team is tirelessly innovating to increase the efficiency of its system so it can give back to the community.

“My favourite part to be quite honest would definitely be helping the community,” said Soliman.

“The amount of comments that we received during the pandemic about helping customers—parents ordering from far away, loved ones that can’t get to their loved ones, or even children ordering for their parents—it’s been fantastic.”

Couryah was recently named a finalist for Propel’s Gerry Pond Sales Award, which is handed out each year to a Traction and Growth company that excels in creating a repeatable and scalable sales process. Couryah is also one of 11 startups selected to join the first 2023 program of Invest Nova Scotia’s Accelerate startup program, which offers participating companies 5 months of business and technical training and $40,000 of funding.
