As we near the end of April, the Digital Nova Scotia team is sad to say goodbye to 4 of our incredible Co-op students. Sam, Tyler, Oshine, and Logan will all be wrapping up their placement with DNS this Friday, and we will certainly miss all that they have brought to the table since joining the team in January. In bidding farewell, Sam, Tyler, Oshine, and Logan have taken the time to answer a few questions about their time at DNS, what the last 4 months have meant to them, and what could be in store for the next chapter in their careers!
Tyler Usher-Jones (Project Coordinator)
About Tyler: Tyler is currently in his 2nd year studying at Dalhousie University to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce. Tyler is originally from Toronto, and his favorite thing to do in his free time is skateboarding or biking with friends.
What was your best moment while on your placement with Digital Nova Scotia? My best moment at DNS was definitely the St. Patrick’s day get together. It was a ton of fun to chat with the team while painting our St. Paddy’s day themed paintings. I still have mine hung up in my house!
What’s something you learned that you think will help you in your future career? I learned a lot about how to communicate with clients in a productive and professional way. I have become much more independent over time with managing all of my projects, and will continue to use those communication and time management skills in all future endeavors.
What’s next for you? For me, I will be continuing my pursuit of a bachelor of commerce at Dalhousie University during my summer school term, and will be looking for a future Co-op placement for this upcoming fall. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity to be with DNS, and to work alongside the outstanding team.
Logan Oderkirk (Project Coordinator)
About Logan: Logan is a 4th Year Bachelor of Public Relations student at the Mount from Halifax Nova Scotia who loves to Kayak.
What was your best moment while on your placement with Digital Nova Scotia? My best moment at DNS was definitely the various holiday team get together. I can’t say how hard I laughed and how much I enjoyed the time with the team.
What’s something you learned that you think will help you in your future career? I learned that I am able to manage outreach for projects and manage multiple relationships with stakeholders at a time. This was an area I was very nervous of but have come to love.
What’s next for you? Next for me is working for the Provincial Government with the PC Caucus office as a Communications and Research officer. I will never forget my DNS roots and will definitely be back to visit
Oshine Rathore (Project Coordinator)
About Oshine: Oshine likes to spend her free time with family and friends, biking, hiking, cooking and baking. She is currently enrolled in Eastern College’s Business and Digital Marketing Specialist Program.
What was your best moment while on your co-op placement with Digital Nova Scotia? My best moment with Digital Nova Scotia is when we have a Saint Patrick day’s get together. It was a wonderful time. Everybody was making their paintings and it was so much fun and I really enjoyed that time with everyone.
What’s something you learned that you think will help you in your future career? I have learned how to Coordinates project logistics for many Individual DAP projects working with Small Businesses and Digital Service Providers and provide assistance and respond to questions from program participants and how to collaborate on creating and leveraging tools and resources.
What’s next for you? My college wrapping up this Friday as well, and I am going to graduate as Business and Digital Marketing Specialist. I will pursue my career as a Digital Marketing Specialist or as a Graphic Designer.
Sam Richardson (Communications Coordinator)
About Sam: Originally from Ottawa, Sam is a student at Dalhousie University who loves sports and the outdoors.
What was your best moment while on your co-op placement with Digital Nova Scotia?
My fondest memories with Digital Nova Scotia are from the limited time I spent in the office. Everyone was so friendly and supportive, and I made sure I felt like a part of the team right off the bat. I will miss the countless great personalities and all the laughs they gave me!
What’s something you learned that you think will help you in your future career?
My time with Digital Nova Scotia taught me many skills that I will take with me moving forward. In particular, the trust and support I received from the team has helped me become much more confident in my skills, and more comfortable in a professional setting.
What’s next for you?
After I leave DNS, I’ll be returning to school to continue my pursuit of a BComm degree from Dalhousie. In the fall, I hope to land a co-op position with ties to Nova Scotia’s sports-business landscape to continue developing my skills and following my passion.
