Elevating Connectivity, and Digital Confidence in Atlantic Canada

For years, public Wi-Fi was treated as a nice-to-have amenity. Today, it’s fast becoming core infrastructure, and one company with deep roots in the region is helping Atlantic Canada catch up.

SolutionInc, a Halifax-based company with nearly 30 years of experience in public Wi-Fi and network optimization, has evolved far beyond its original focus. Drawing on decades of work across hotels, campuses, multi-tenant buildings and public spaces, the company is now helping organizations rethink how networks support day-to-day operations, decision-making and growth. And although SolutionInc works in markets around the world, its current focus is close to home.

“A lot of what we do is about giving companies the confidence that their network is not just working, but actually supporting how they operate,” said Karen Saunders, Director of Sales.

“We are large enough to handle complex environments but small enough to really pay attention to the details at each site,” said Robin Veinotte, VP / Director of New Business Ventures.

Public Wi-Fi has changed dramatically since SolutionInc’s early days. What once centred on easy guest access has expanded into something far more complex. Organisations now expect networks to support analytics, operations and customer engagement rather than just basic connectivity.

“People still expect fast and simple access, [but] what they need behind the scenes is entirely different now,” said Saunders, describing the shift as “moving from a single purpose service to something that supports the entire digital experience in a space.”

Modern Wi-Fi has become a data platform, giving businesses a clearer picture of how people move through a space, what they use, and where operations could improve. And the value of that data is still widely underestimated: authentication and usage information can show patterns like dwell time, return visits, and guest flow — insights that help organisations make better decisions. In hospitality and retail, recognising returning guests can also strengthen loyalty and improve service. SolutionInc says the next phase will bring AI-supported tools that can interpret this activity and help operators make timely, informed adjustments.

That work is especially relevant in Atlantic Canada, where many organizations still struggle with basic network management. Research from the University of New Brunswick shows that small and medium-sized businesses often confuse internet service with the infrastructure that delivers it. As a result, networks are installed and then left untouched for years, even though they need regular upkeep to stay reliable.

Those findings mirror broader research on digital adoption in the region, which highlights reactive decision-making, skills shortages and limited long term planning. While most businesses rely on external providers, fewer than 40 per cent have a documented digital strategy, underscoring the need for clear guidance and dependable support.

One area that remains widely underestimated, according to Saunders and Veinotte, is the value of Wi-Fi data itself.

Security and the Next Wave of Technology

Security remains a major focus for SolutionInc. Their approach uses multiple layers, including hardware encryption, strong authentication and network segmentation to keep users and property networks protected. As more brands shift to Passpoint and certificate based authentication, SolutionInc is developing the tools needed to support those newer standards.

The move toward Wi-Fi 7 is also changing how networks need to be designed. The technology offers faster speeds and better performance, but its wider channels and higher frequencies mean coverage has to be planned more carefully. SolutionInc highlights that good design and regular optimisation are essential to get the full benefits of this new generation of Wi-Fi.

What Comes Next

Looking ahead, SolutionInc is preparing for its next phase of growth with tools designed to support partners and organizations managing one or multiple locations. The company’s new SolutionIP Zen platform centralises configuration, updates and branding for large portfolios, while SolutionIP FLEX provides a streamlined gateway for venues large or small that need dependable connectivity.

Alongside these products, the company continues to focus on education and awareness through training sessions, workshops and local partnerships. With long-standing technical expertise and adaptable software, SolutionInc is helping organizations all over the world build networks that are not only faster, but smarter and more resilient.
