Branding, Development & Rural Life: A Peak Into MBD Studio's Evolution

Who is MBD Studio?MBD Studio, formerly Michael Broley Development, is a dynamic creative agency based in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Founded in August 2021 by Michael Broley, the studio specializes in helping businesses grow through a comprehensive suite of services, including branding, web development & marketing.Branding with PurposeAt MBD Studio, branding goes beyond visuals—it's about crafting a cohesive identity that reflects a business's core values. From logos to websites, every touchpoint is designed to create a seamless and impactful brand experience.Michael emphasizes, “As long as someone's conscientiously put thought into what their brand is & their Facebook page looks the same as their business cards, which looks like the website, which looks like the proposal they give out. That cohesiveness will make you stand out!”The studio recently underwent its own rebranding to better represent its collaborative ethos and growing team. While the name has changed, the commitment to exceptional service remains steadfast.Web Development & Strategic Social MediaMBD Studio delivers websites that are not only visually appealing but also user-friendly, mobile-optimized & accessible. “Responsive design isn't even a question. You have to build for mobile,” Michael states. “There are tools that will allow you to build a lot quicker so there is no excuse for any site not to be optimized”.MBD Studio is selective when it comes to taking on social media projects because “it is easy for companies to fall into a pattern of following trends but not seeing results”. We believe that “you should prioritize meaningful engagement”. Michael further explains, “I think if you want to focus on building a social media presence and not on trends, you have to adjust your expectations. Likes and followers don’t necessarily matter in the end… what revenue you're driving does! We focus on aligning content with specific business goals to deliver measurable impact.”Thriving in a Rural Tech LandscapeOperating from the picturesque Mahone Bay, Michael has embraced the unique opportunities and challenges of running a tech-forward business in a rural setting.“The first and most noticeable difference from being in downtown Toronto to the heart of Mahone Bay is urgency,” he shares. “In Toronto, it’s like, ‘Why didn’t I have it yesterday?’ Here, there are still urgent tasks, but that urgency doesn’t exist here on the whole. The pacing of life is a little slower, and I absolutely adore that.”MBD Studio has overcome unique challenges, from limited internet access in its early days to adapting strategies for smaller markets. Michael notes, “Understand the markets are different when you're working in downtown Toronto or Halifax, versus smaller communities. That plays into your approach to pricing and everything else that you do.”Collaboration remains at the heart of the business. As Michael adds, “I love working by myself. But I also love working with other creative’s and feeding off their energy and expertise. Plus, it keeps me talking shop which is always important.”What's New at MBD Studio? In December 2024, MBD Studio launched a referral program, offering a 20% referral payout on the first project for new clients referred by existing ones. This initiative reflects the studio's gratitude for its clients’ trust and their role in its success.Looking ahead to 2025, MBD Studio is poised to unveil a few exciting new projects.
