Canada

  • Employment rose during the month by 21,100 jobs.
  • The growth occurred in both full time and part time positions.
  • The unemployment rate fell in the month to 5.2%.
  • The goods producing sector lost jobs in September ( 24,800), while the services producing sector saw growth of 45,900 jobs.

Labour Force: 20,619,500 (-20,300)
Employment: 19,547,900 (+21,100)

 

Atlantic Canada

  • The Atlantic Region experienced growth in employment in September, amounting to 3,900 jobs.
  • Part time jobs increased while full time jobs declined.
  • The rate of unemployment fell sharply, going from 8.2% to 7.2%, resting just above the 12 month low of 7.1%.
  • The goods producing sector added jobs (+4,600), while the service sector saw job reductions of 800.

Employment: 1,164,500 (+3,900)

 

Nova Scotia

  • Labour Force: 512,000
  • Employment: 480,200
  • Unemployment Rate: 6.2%
  • Labour Force Change: -2,900
  • Employment Change: +4,300
  • Unemployment Rate Change: -1.4
