Canada

  • Employment rose during the month by 39,800 jobs, making it the fourth consecutive monthly gain.
  • Full-time jobs increased alongside fewer part-time.
  • The unemployment rate fell in the month to 5.1%, reaching its lowest point since the survey began in 1976.
  • The goods-producing sector lost jobs in May (-41,200), while the services-producing sector saw growth of 80,900 jobs.

Atlantic Canada

  • The Atlantic Region experienced a reduction in employment in the month, shedding 800 jobs.
  • Full-time jobs increased alongside fewer part-time.
  • The unemployment rate moved higher in the month to 7.6%, resting just above the 12-month low of 7.4%.
  • The goods-producing sector lost jobs in May (-5,100), while the services-producing sector saw growth of 4,000 jobs.
