Atlantic Labour Market Brief: January 2022

Canada

• Employment fell sharply in January, down from the previous month by 200,100 jobs.
• The job reductions occurred in both full-time and part-time positions.
• The rate of unemployment rose sharply, going from 6.0% to 6.5%, influenced by the job reductions.
• The goods-producing sector added jobs (+22,900), while the service sector saw job reductions of 223,100.

Atlantic Canada

• Employment fell sharply in January, down from the previous month by 7,200 jobs.
• Full-time jobs increased alongside fewer part-time.
• The rate of unemployment saw no change from last month, remaining at 8.9%.
• The goods-producing sector added jobs (+4,700), while the service sector saw job reductions of 11,900.
