Atlantic Labour Market Brief: August 2024

Canada

  • The number of people employed increased in August by 22,100 jobs.
  • Part-time jobs increased while full-time jobs declined.
  • The rate of unemployment increased this month to 6.6%, its highest since September 2021.
  • The goods-producing sector added jobs (+2,700), while the service sector saw growth of 19,500 jobs.

Labour force: 21,994,600 (+82,500) Employment: 20,535,700 (+22,100)

Atlantic Canada

  • Employment grew at a strong pace in August, up from the previous month by 5,600 jobs.
  • Growth occurred in both part-time and full-time jobs.
  • The unemployment rate fell in the month to 7.5%, influenced by job gains.
  • The goods-producing sector added jobs in August (+800), while the service sector saw growth of 4,700 jobs.

  • Unemployment Rate: 6.7%
