We are currently looking for a GIS Technician to join our GIS team in a temporary position. This role will report to the Senior GIS Specialist.

As a member of the GIS Team, you will:

  • Be responsible for utilizing the capabilities of ESRI ArcGIS application suite, 3rd party software and a variety of computer hardware devices, perform spatial analysis for supporting grid model management and ensure quality assurance of data into the GIS.
  • Be responsible for leading in training and troubleshooting within the GIS group.
  • Interface with the Operational Technology team and provide necessary services to support the safe and reliable operation of Nova Scotia Power’s province wide distribution system.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • Graduation from a Community College with a GIS certificate and/or an advanced diploma in GIS.
  • Experience with geographic information systems and a good understanding and knowledge of electric utility distribution feeder systems is required.
  • Previous experience with a geometric network or a utility network would be considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate must be proficient working with ESRI GIS software suite including ArcMap, ArcPro, enterprise geodatabases, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online.
  • Strong communications skills with regard to internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Project Management skills would be considered an asset. You must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong analytical, visualization and scripting skills would be considered assets.
