Marinus Services ULC is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to support the financial health and operational effectiveness of the organization. This role is office-based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, with functional accountability to the Controller based in Long Beach, California, the Staff Accountant will oversee the full cycle of accounts payable and accounts receivable for Marinus Services in Canada. The role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial records, timely invoicing and collections, and compliance with internal policies and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

– Perform day-to-day financial transactions including accounts payable and receivable
– Manage full-cycle AP and AR processes
– Monitor invoicing, collections, and escalate non-payment issues
– Support month-end close, accruals, and reconciliations
– Prepare monthly AP/AR reports
– Maintain compliance with company policies and financial regulations
– Prepare weekly payment batches and recurring obligations
– Review and process employee expense reports
– Resolve discrepancies with suppliers and internal departments
– Support audits, documentation, and ad-hoc projects

Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field OR equivalent certification
– CPA designation preferred
– 2-3 years of experience in accounting or AP/AR roles
– Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel
– Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Preferred Skills

– Oracle or ERP system experience
– Exposure to Human Resources processes
– Experience working with distributed or international teams

Work Environment

– Office-based in Halifax, Nova Scotia
– Collaboration with international stakeholders
– Minimal international travel may be required

Physical Demands

– Ability to occasionally work overtime; weekends, holidays, and nights, as necessary

– Verbal and listening skills to understand English and work safely

– Availability for a professional in office weekday work schedule

– Ability to climb stairs, traverse uneven surfaces, and sit for extended periods

– Capability to bend, reach, pull, push, and lift up to 45 pounds
