SQL Database Administrator

We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join our dynamic team with an Insurance client. The role involves managing and optimizing our database infrastructure across Canada locations.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and optimize Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server databases to ensure high performance and availability.
- Lead database migration projects and upgrades to minimize downtime and disruption.
- Experience in trouble shooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
- Ability to detect and trouble shoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
- Provide technical support and trouble shooting for database-related issues.
- Implement and maintain database monitoring tools to proactively determine and resolve performance issues.
- Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database solutions that meet business requirements.
- Conduct regular database maintenance tasks, including indexing, statistics updates, and performance tuning.
- Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards for database management.
What you’ll need to succeed (required skills):
- Experience in Database Administration in SQL Server (2008R2, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022)
- Proficiency in maintaining database scalability by planning and forecasting.
- Solid understanding of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication, Always ON.
- Expertise in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and trouble shooting tools on Azure SQL VM.
What will help you stand out (preferred skills):
- Hands on experience on PostgreSQL, Oracle and DB2 LUW Databases would be added as advantage.
- Hands on Monitoring tool such as Foglight, Sentry, Idea Litespeed.
- Hands on Backup tool such as EMC Networker, Litespeed and Commvault.
