Senior Mainframe Developer- Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer who will play a critical role in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of our mainframe applications. The ideal candidate must possess an extensive background in IBM Mainframe Utilities, VSAM, DB2, IMS, JCL, and Cobol. This position requires not only technical expertise but also a strong analytical approach to tackle complex programming challenges. You will work closely with multi-functional teams to gather requirements, establish technical specifications, and ensure the successful integration of various systems. Given the centrality of mainframe systems in our operations, your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and reliability of our services.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality mainframe applications using Cobol, JCL, and other IBM mainframe utilities.
- Analyze existing code and optimize performance, identifying areas for improvement in system efficiency.
- Collaborate with system analysts, project managers, and business collaborators to gather and clarify application requirements.
- Develop unit tests and participate in peer code reviews to ensure code quality and standards.
- Implement and maintain VSAM, DB2, and IMS databases, ensuring data integrity and optimizing access paths.
What you’ll need to succeed (required skills):
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in mainframe application development using Cobol and JCL.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience IBM Mainframe Utilities and their application in development processes.
- Proficiency in database management and development with VSAM, DB2, and IMS.
- Experience in performance tuning and optimization of mainframe applications.

- Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum.
Working arrangements

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in a client OR Cognizant office in Halifax, NS.
