SDET
Position Description:
At CGI, We are seeking a skilled and proactive SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) / Automation QA Engineer with at least 4 years of hands-on experience in building and executing automated test frameworks. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java and/or Python, test automation using Selenium, BDD frameworks, API testing, and basic backend testing. You will work closely with developers, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure high product quality through automated test coverage across frontend and backend layers. Experience in the banking or financial domain is considered an asset. This is a permanent fulltime role based in Atlantic Canada on a hybrid basis (2-3 days in a week onsite)
Your future duties and responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for web applications using Java/Python and Selenium WebDriver
• Implement and manage BDD frameworks such as Cucumber (Java) or Behave (Python)
• Perform frontend UI testing to validate web application functionality
• Conduct API testing using tools like Postman, RestAssured, or Requests
• Collaborate with developers and backend engineers to perform basic backend testing and data validation
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD)
• Participate in test planning, design reviews, and sprint ceremonies to contribute to quality and delivery goals
• Monitor, analyze, and report on test execution results and raise defects with clarity and priority
• Continuously improve automation efficiency, test coverage, and framework performance
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• 4+ years of hands-on experience in test automation for web and API testing
• Proficient in Java and/or Python with solid scripting and debugging skills
• Strong experience with Selenium WebDriver for frontend test automation
• Solid understanding and use of BDD frameworks like Cucumber (Java) or Behave (Python)
• Experience in API testing using Postman, RestAssured, or Requests
• Exposure to backend testing, including working with APIs, databases, or service integrations
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI
• Version control using Git or similar platforms
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and work independently
Nice to Have:
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
• Experience with containerization tools like Docker
• Familiarity with Playwright, Cypress, or Appium for cross-platform automation
• Understanding of performance testing tools like JMeter
