About the role

The Marine Systems Engineer – Mechanical Lead is responsible for providing oversight of the RCD Warship design in the Mechanical area, including HVAC, Chilled Water, Propulsion, and Auxiliary Systems by working closely with the Warship Designer (BAE), the Shipyard (ISI), and Canada to produce the associated Platform design artifacts in preparation for design reviews. The successful candidate will play a significant role in helping shape relationships with the customer and sub-contractor teams during transition from Warship design to implementation/production in support of the RCD build program.

The candidate will function in a fast-paced multi-disciplined team environment, and support the Platform IPT Lead in all Platform technical responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the Mechanical Product Delivery Teams (PDT) scope of behalf of Platform Systems
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the Warship Designer in Mechanical areas such as HVAC, Chilled Water, Propulsion, and Auxiliary Systems;
  • Responsible for overseeing assigned technical aspects of the design scope, deliverables, requirements, issues, risks and actions;
  • Establish regular communication with PDT counterparts and stakeholders (internal and external to Platform) to resolve issues and progress actions;
  • Attend Irving Shipbuilding Inc (ISI), Warship Designer (BAE), and internal Lockheed Martin meetings as required;
  • Exhibit leadership in formulating and executing resolution strategies for PDT technical problems;
  • Participate in the development of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and cost and schedule impact assessments.
  • Special assignments as required to support the success of the Platform Delivery Team.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the Platform Team;
  • Maintenance of a high standard of professional excellence.

What you bring to the role

  • Degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree with relevant experience
  • 5-10 years of experience in a naval engineering role or on a naval shipbuilding program in a production/manufacturing focused role.
  • Experience in a shipyard environment, with on-ship experience considered an asset.
  • Candidate to have knowledge of ship design and equipment integration
  • Experience reviewing detail design drawings and 3-D Models
  • Demonstrated Department/Discipline Lead Experience
  • Experience in Ship Platform or Combat Systems design and integration
  • Demonstrated capability to perform well in difficult or ambiguous situations
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Aptitude for providing technical guidance and solving challenging problems
  • Works well individually or in a team environment
  • Ability to acquire North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secret Security clearance.
  • Strong experience with Classification Society rules/regulations.
