Engineering Project Management Senior Staff

About the role

The Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) EPM needs to have the experience, drive and demonstrated capability to lead a team of engineers of multiple disciplines to provide technical excellence and mission success.  The CSC EPM requires excellent leadership skills, including building relationships with team members, direct reports and stakeholders.

The Combat Systems EPM is accountable for overall Engineering and Technology (E&T) technical, cost, and schedule performance of the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) project.

The CSC EPM:

  • Provides timely and accurate resource requirements (people/skills, tools, infrastructure, …)
  • Ensures E&T functional stakeholder engagement in program oversight and cost estimating review/approvals
  • Monitors program performance including earned value management and technical progress measures
  • Ensures technical and programmatic risks and dependencies are identified, managed and appropriately elevated
  • Ensures technical integrity of program products
  • Ensures requirements baseline is documented, tracked, maintained, and verified
  • Ensures establishment and tracking of key Technical Performance Measures (TPM)
  • Tracks maturity of technical baseline and management of technical debt
  • Ensures adherence to adequate and appropriately adapted E&T processes
  • Supports mentoring and career development of program team
  • Proactively communicates with all constituents.

The candidate will participate in engineering activities including but not limited to:

Perform as CSC EPM

  • Technical definition and development of the System Architecture
  • Performing engineering planning and statusing including Earned Value Management (EVM) activities
  • Performing requirements analysis
  • Performing trade studies
  • Reviewing requirements and requirements allocation
  • Performing system architecture, modelling and design, including Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Defining and tracking of Technical Performance Metrics (TPMs)
  • System integration planning
  • Design documentation
  • Ensuring the use of systems engineering processes and best practices
  • Continuously drives process excellence; focuses on enhancing project execution by leveraging proven processes, sharing lessons learned and adopting best practices from other parts of the business or industry
  • Customer interaction, ensuring customer involvement and overall satisfaction.

What you bring to the role

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in software, hardware, systems, mechanical, electrical, electronics engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience
  • Equivalent experience/combined education will be considered
  • Experience leading technical teams and performing as Technical Director (TD)/Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead or EPM on significant size Naval programs or other defence projects
  • Experience with Ship Design, Software, Systems, Hardware or Maintenance engineering lifecycles
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical members of the engineering/management staff and personnel assigned to related work
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Aptitude for solving challenging problems in a team environment
  • Have a high degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Have a high learning ability
  • Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Familiarity with SysML or other object-oriented design methodology
  • Familiarity with Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), CAMEO, Jira, Windchill
  • Experience with Agile methods
  • Experience with Military Naval domain
  • Experience with Sensors, Weapons or Ship integration
  • Experience with Change Management, Requirements Management, Test and trials, Security, Safety, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) or Environmental Qualification.
  • Experience with Ship Design and Architecture
  • Experience with Ship Installation

Language Requirements in Quebec

Knowledge of the English language is required for this role as the position described in this posting requires the candidate to communicate every day with a virtual team outside Quebec as well as communicate with different members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range

$149,500 – $196,500
