Digital Discovery Camp Leader
The Digital Discovery Camp Leader will use their creativity and prior knowledge to plan and develop engaging camp activities centered around coding, circuitry, and/or robotics for youth ages 9-13 in partnership with Digital Nova Scotia. Digital camps are delivered at Discovery Centre and free to various communities throughout the province.
The position provides experience working in a team setting, training staff, managing a budget, coordinating and delivering educational and recreational programs, building relationships with local community organizations, developing communication and leadership skills, and mentoring junior camp counsellors, volunteers and youth.

Description of Tasks:
The Digital Discovery Camp Leader works in the Science Education department and reports to the Manager of Science Education. The primary tasks of the position are:
- Working collaboratively with two Digital Discovery Camp Counsellors, Digital Nova Scotia, and other community organizations to plan and develop hands-on learning activities, games, special guest appearances, and field trips for Digital Discovery Camp
- Leading camp programming (coding/circuits/ robotics etc.) for 15 – 20 youth attending Digital Discovery Camps at Discovery Centre and across the province
- Training and working collaboratively with Digital Camp Counsellors in presenting activities and games
- Providing guidance and direction to the Digital Discovery Camp Counsellors and delegating daily tasks to the counsellors as needed to ensure smooth camp delivery from activity prep, to camp facilitation, to cleanup
- Coordinating/purchasing supplies, working within the program budget.
- Preparing summary reports on each camp week and a final report on the program
- Liaising with parents or guardians to ensure campers needs are met and any disciplinary issues are addressed
- Assisting, as needed, with Camp promotional activities
- Supporting daily camp sign in/out processes as needed
- Supporting other Discovery Centre camp groups with classroom support in the event of camp staff absences.
Qualifications:
Education: Post-secondary studies in computer science, education, recreation, or a related discipline
Experience: Experience working with children in an educational or recreational, museum, or camp setting; experience supervising staff would be considered an asset; experience in the fields of graphic design, digital animation, video production, or video game development/design would be considered an asset
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required; fluency in French strongly preferred; additional languages considered an asset

Other Qualifications:
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Experience with coding and open-source software
- Must pass a criminal record check or vulnerable sector check
- First Aid and WHMIS certification an asset
- Must possess a valid driver’s license; the ability to travel is necessary for camps involving community outreach (Company vehicle, accommodations, and meal per diems will be covered by Discovery Centre)
