The Black Innovators in STEM Exhibit

Imhotep’s Legacy Academy (ILA) Learning Centre 1360 Barrington Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Hosted by Imhotep Legacy Academy ILA invites the public to view the Black Innovators in STEM Exhibition. This exhibition was developed and curated by Mr. Francis Jeffers of the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum and is on loan to ILA. The exhibit displays the contributions of Black people to STEM throughout history—from Ancient Egyptians through to contemporary scientists, inventors, and engineers, and features personalities from a library of 200 panels. The Exhibition aims to inspires Black youth to see themselves as part of the history of STEM worldwide. Significance of the Exhibit The Black Innovators in STEM Exhibition enables individuals to increase their awareness of the contributions of persons of African heritage to STEM. Black youth are able to see the contributions made to STEM fields by persons who look like they do, which may strengthen their belief in their own ability to make similar contributions. The exhibit also helps to dispel prejudices and stereotypes that may be held by non-Black youth and adults within the school environment. This exhibition will be on display throughout the Innovation Week.

Women Leading in Building Peace and Security

Hosted by the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security To commemorate this year’s International Day of Peace, the Dallaire Institute is hosting a one-day workshop and an evening plenary session, open to the public. The workshop will focus on the vital role of women in addressing peace and security in our divided world, featuring two panels that bring together researchers and practitioners. These discussions will highlight women’s often unrecognized leadership in tackling urgent peace and security challenges, especially those that negatively impact children. The evening plenary session will include a special video appearance by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and a dialogue between the former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and youth activists from the Middle East and Africa.
