Closing the Wage Gap – Empowering Women in Tech to Negotiate Equal Pay

Women are still earning 13.3% less than their male counterparts; it’s time to close the wage gap, negotiate + receive equal pay. Since 1998, the wage gap has only decreased by five-and-a-half per cent, leaving women in Canada currently earning 13.3 per cent less than their male counterparts. The issue of pay equity is complex, with many influencing factors, particularly in male-dominated fields such as technology. Only a portion of the wage gap can be explained by measurable impacts such as education, occupational distribution, part-time work and work interruption. Other factors are more difficult to measure and make up the unexplained portion of pay inequity. On Tuesday, November 24, beginning at 4:00pm, join Genevieve MacInnis and Volta, to learn: how to negotiate a fair salary to ask your employer for a raise how to recognize gender biases in the workplace, and better understand how they impact pay how societal pressures influence behaviours and can put women at a pay disadvantage the importance of setting clear boundaries and expectations Register

FDI & the Post COVID Economy: Building a Stronger Tomorrow

ICTC's Digital Think Tank invites you to a virtual panel discussion on FDI & the Post COVID Economy You’re invited to join Alexandra Cutean, Senior Director of Research & Policy at the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), along with her distinguished panel of guests as they dive into foreign direct investment (FDI) and growing our tech ecosystems. In 2018, just 12% of Canadian startups (out of thousands assessed by the University of Toronto Impact Centre) met the criteria needed to grow to “world-class size” and maintain current growth trajectories. Although funding for startups is available through a variety of government grants, attracting high-quality foreign direct investment to Canada is essential. This investment can grow the pool of financial and technical resources available for local startups with an existing track record of success to become high-performing scale-ups. Beyond financial resources, high-quality FDI can also be a method for Canadian startups to gain knowledge, business expertise, and access to critical distribution networks and international markets. This virtual panel discussion will delve into the topic: Foreign direct investment (FDI) and tech ecosystem growth Our distinguished panel consists of: Jaap Slothouwer ,Country Director Canada, Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) Chris Chen , Head of Investment Promotion […]
