FutureWave is TECHNATION’s annual hybrid event exploring the future of the tech workforce in Canada. Taking place during Work-Integrated Learning month in March, this conference invites diverse voices in the tech space and beyond to discuss ways in which we can support our future leaders with experiential learning opportunities. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program. Expert Series — How to Foster a Neuro-Inclusive Workplace

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term that includes Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and co-occurring mental health challenges. Individuals with neurodivergent brains may not think or behave in a ‘typical’ fashion. Yet, these differences are to be valued and accepted as an aspect of diversity rather than as abnormal or problematic. In this workshop, we will explore the strengths that neurodivergent employees can bring to your teams, how to identify the challenges they may face, and how you can accommodate their learning differences. From this workshop, you'll learn: Understanding of what neurodiversity is and how it impacts employment; Identify key areas where neurodivergent employees struggle and; Identify Accommodations for each subset of their struggle. Meet your facilitator: Keith Gelhorn, Founder & Chief Empowerment Officer, ADDvocacy ADDvocacy was started in 2012 as a social enterprise focused on supporting neurodivergent youth and adults navigating their transition to post-secondary, the workplace and/or entrepreneurship. We also facilitate peer-led professional development training for employers and educators on creating neuro-inclusive workplaces and classrooms.
