She was appointed President and CEO of BDC in August 2021, after serving as Ambassador of Canada to France and Monaco for four years and holding the positions of President and CEO (Quebec) and Senior Vice President (Canada) of Sun Life Financial. It's the tool you need to get your data on the clusters, run your programs, and get your data back. In this session, learn how to create and navigate directories for your data, load files, manage your storage, run programs on the compute clusters, and set file permissions. Introductory Programming: Unix Shell, Git and Python

This is a beginner level series that is hands-on, covering the fundamentals of Unix Shell, Version Control with Git and Python. This includes data types, conditional statements, loops and functions, as well as program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems. The goal is to teach the practical knowledge needed to start programming, debugging and using Python in everyday tasks. Prerequisites: no previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented, nor previous programming experience, but intermediate level experience with a computer is highly recommended. Tech Wednesdays with NPower Canada

About this event More than 80% of NPower Canada alumni secure employment or enroll in higher education within 6 months of graduating, with 30-40% already placed into jobs upon completing training. Graduates launch digital careers in roles such as Help Desk Agent, Data Analyst, QA / Tester and Business Systems Analyst with companies like TELUS, Accenture and CIBC. NPower Canada is a registered charity launching individuals 18 + (with no maximum age) into meaningful digital careers. NPower Canada's virtually delivered programs provide participants with 15 weeks of no-cost, part-time tech skills training, including industry certifications, complemented by employability skills coaching and wraparound supports (including bus pass, interview clothing and laptops/WiFi based on financial need). Program participants are also connected directly with employers, job retention supports and five years of alumni services including continued education and mentorship. Candidates do not need any prior background in tech to apply. They must have completed their high school, Dogwood or GED, and be eligible to work in Canada. NPower Canada prioritizes serving lower-income, un/underemployed individuals, female-identified, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomers and people with disabilities.
