Join Volta and Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce for an engaging and informative workshop on the Power of Supplier Diversity. Canada is home to more than 28,000 LGBT+ entrepreneurs. Collectively, they generate $22-billion in economic activity and employ more than 435,000 people – or the population of Halifax. In other words, LGBT+ business is big business. When these innovative entrepreneurs are connected with corporations looking to advance corporate social responsibility by diversifying their supply chains – we are collectively reducing barriers, advancing LGBT+ entrepreneurship, and creating a truly inclusive economy, one connection at a time. We’ll learn about supplier diversity – the concept of diverse-owned businesses getting certified as certified suppliers, and corporations internally championing diverse procurement processes. Lastly, you’ll hear about Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce’s work supporting LGBT+ entrepreneurs, business owners, and their allies – including educational programming on the LGBT+ tourism market, support for young entrepreneurs, and international business development […]

Venture Capital Investment Competition

Global VCIC is the world’s largest venture capital competition with over 120 university and graduate school teams competing. VCIC is the only place where students get to be VCs for the day and startups get an accelerator for the fundraising process. Students play the role of VCs who have around $100MM to invest in one of the startups presenting. They’ll be assessing the investment opportunities and pitching an investment strategy to top VC’s of Canada and the USA. Our judges are venture capitalists, who come to VCIC for the opportunity to reconnect with their alma maters, network with other VCs and get a peek at some early stage startups as well as bright students. Each VCIC regional finals showcases three of the Most VC-Backable Startups in the area. For founders, VCIC is like “an accelerator for the fundraising process” and “the most value for time invested.”. With multiple prizes to be won, this is an event you won't want to miss out on!
