The Province of Nova Scotia is teaming with the School of Information Management and the Rowe School of Business (Dalhousie University Faculty of Management) to host its fourth annual Open Data Contest on March 7th-8th, 2020 in conjunction with International Open Data Day. The contest will take place from 8:30 AM Saturday, March 7th until approximately 4:30 PM Sunday, March 8th. There will be cash prizes for winning submissions (including a $4000 top prize) *see full agenda below*
Students, Entrepreneurs, and Citizens – This year our Open Data Contest is focusing on healthcare and the economy! We are challenging you to create one of the following, using at least one Nova Scotia Open Data dataset within your solution:
(1) An application (web / mobile / desktop) that is innovative, easy-to-use, and has the potential to make a positive impact on the economy or address some aspect of healthcare. The app must use at least one Nova Scotia Open Data dataset within the solution and be able to demonstrate its potential for economic growth/commercialization or impact on healthcare/health outcomes.
(2) A predictive model that generates interesting, informative, and useful forecasts based on relative datasets including at least one from the Nova Scotia Open Data Portal. The model must have the potential to make a positive impact on the economy or address some aspect of healthcare.
(3) A visualization that is compelling, creative, informative, easy to understand, and beneficial to a broad range of stakeholders. Submissions should clearly articulate the value of the analysis, and what specific economic or healthcare objective it achieves. Submissions should draw on multiple datasets that must include at least one dataset from the Nova Scotia Open Data Portal.
Your solutions will be judged on specific criteria including:
**NOTE: Solutions that do not use a NS Open Data dataset within the solution will not be considered for a prize/award.
Participants may register as an individual (to work alone or become part of a team) or as a team (max of 5 members per team allowed). All team members must register individually on Eventbrite. Registration must be confirmed during registration on opening day (March 7, 2020 8:30-9:00 am).
Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days (please specify any dietary preferences or allergies when registering).
