The Cloud – Is it really just someone else’s computer?
Abstract:
We’ve all heard someone jokingly say “The cloud is just someone else’s computer”, but is that correct? Is the cloud just a rebranding of the same technologies we’ve been using extensively for decades?
I don’t believe so. Many of the underlying technologies are familiar, but the architecture and approach for building cloud native applications is fundamentally different than what we’ve seen before.
In this talk we’ll examine some of these differences and get a glimpse into how some of these strategies are being employed at Salesforce, one of the early pioneers in the Cloud.
Bio:
Steve is a software developer with 20+ years experience building software in a wide variety of languages and platforms. Everything from embedded systems, web applications, enterprise management software and business intelligence platforms.
He is primarily focused on backend development and architecture and has recently become laser focused on stream processing and promoting re-imagined architectural approaches to leverage message based designs for massive data problems.
He also likes cats.
