What is a Game Jam?
The goal is to come together and make a videogame, or non-digital game like a board game or card game. Participants rapidly prototype game designs and inject new ideas to help grow the gaming industry. All GGJ sites share a common theme and constraints. The theme will be revealed on the Friday evening (January 31) and all games created are based on that theme. Participants will be asked to create the game from beginning to end in a prescribed time (maximum of 48 hours). The brief time span is meant to encourage creative thinking to build small but innovative and experimental games.
Who’s invited?
Anyone who wants to create a videogame, board game or card game is welcome from January 31 to February 2 to collaborate with other gamers, designers, developers and people interested in learning about game creation. We’ll be providing the theme, food, space and Internet. All you need to bring is a laptop, any software/hardware you need, and some ideas! Do not come to the Jam with a team. Ideally, everyone will form teams on the Friday, and will have the opportunity to work with a new collaborators!
Do I need special skills to participate in the GGJ?
Although having computer skills is helpful, code experience is not necessary. Designers, developers, artists and more, are all welcome to try their hand at making a game.
Is the GGJ only for professionals?
Not at all. Everyone is welcome.
